A Slippery Slope

I grew up in upstate New York and started skiing when I was 14 years old when I joined my school’s ski club. My intentions were purely social and I really had very little interest in skiing. I didn’t come from a ski family, I was just there for the gossip on the back of the bus and the snack bar nachos. I’m pretty sure I skied in a sweatshirt and some old wind pants and I was freezing and miserable the whole time (wonder why, haha!). When my husband and I started dating, it became clear that skiing was going to be a “thing” and I (reluctantly) got back on the horse. 16 years later, I’ve learned a few things about skiing and how to dress the part. Here are a few of my favorite ski pieces this season…

On The Mountain
Take it from someone who grew up skiing in a sweatshirt, good gear is KEY. Staying warm and being comfortable are my main objectives when I’m skiing, but these pieces also manage to be stylish, so when I fall, I’ll look cute doing it :)

Jackets
I rotate through a few different ski jackets, but my favorite one is black, has lots of pockets and big chunky zippers (better for cold fingers). Mine is an old Authier jacket I’ve had for about 10 years, but this one is nearly identical. It comes in a few fun colors and is on sale for under $300!

Pants
I absolutely loooove my ski pants and it’s a brand I never would have looked into. They’re super warm and have a slim fit; I prefer pants that flare over the boot vs, tuck inside…ski boots are already uncomfortable enough, I don’t want anything else jammed in there! I’ve got my eye on these for next season!

Layers
I HATE being cold. And I’d rather be overheating than shivering, so I take my layering seriously. I have been skiing with these base layers for years and they are the gold standard. On top, I like to wear a merino base layer and then add a thick sweater over that. On a super cold day, I’ll wear a vest too. (I wasn’t kidding, I hate being cold). I always ski with a gaiter to protect my face; my friend recently launched this company with a bunch of fun colors and prints. The leopard is my favorite!

Accessories
If you ski without a helmet, lose my number. Not only is it safe, it’s WARMMM! This is the only one you’ll ever need.

I have unusually small fingers, so I prefer mittens over gloves. These are huge, like oven mitts, and keep my hands nice and toasty. I ski with warmers and these have plenty of room inside.

Saw a woman skiing with these in Deer Valley and now I need some of my own. Very here for splurging on a designer ski goggle! And just because it’s freezing doesn’t mean you can’t get a sunburn. My go-to sunscreen and don’t forget about your lips! Slip this SPF 30 balm into your ski jacket.

As a side note, I upgraded my skis last season and I can personally vouch for these as a GREAT all-mountain ski for intermediate level skiers. I feel like knowing what ski to invest in is so tricky, so passing along for anyone who might be in the market!

Ski-Town Chic
Ok, let’s be real. Skiing is fun and all, but have you ever tried sitting on a sundeck drinking champagne and eating fondue? I’m in it for Aprés! Here’s what I plan to wear for the happiest hour…
