If it wasn’t already obvious, travel is a huge part of my life. I recently chatted with Lonny Magazine (one of my favorite digital home publications) about how I create a home away from home on the road and the things I don’t leave home without. I thought I would share some of the outtakes from the shoot and do a deeper dive into my travel essentials. Here goes!
For me, seamless travel starts with a great suitcase. I’ve been a long time fan of Away bags and can’t believe I ever survived without one! I also love this one and this one. I almost never check a bag, which means I need to be fairly strategic about what I bring along for the ride. But the one thing I don’t leave home without is my Vince cashmere sweater. It’s grey so it goes with pretty much everything and is the perfect layer. This particular style is sold out, but you can find similar ones here and here. I use accessories to transition a look from day to night and they don't take up a ton of room in my bag. These earrings are so fun and instantly dress up any outfit. For me, denim is easiest for travel; I like to bring 2 different washes with me. I find the best fits with Madewell, Frame and Mother. A denim jacket is also an essential piece. I love this one; it's a very classic shape and the wash is perfect.
What's in my bag: Vintage hat from Palm Springs, Stan Smith sneakers, vintage Louis Vuitton pouch, J.Crew denim jacket, H&M gingham sandals (sold out, but similar style here), Vince Cashmere sweater, Aesop hand cream and Ursa Major Vitamin C Serum...my favorite beauty product at the moment!
I like to bring one or two special pieces, (like the Ulla Johnson top I'm wearing above!) to wear on my trip. It's fun to wear something I might not normally have a chance to at home. Since having Charley I'm really into pajamas; they make me feel comfy at home or away and help me get settled in. These are my go-to pair (hint: they also make a great gift!). They’re slightly pricey, but more budget friendly options can be found here and here.
I know people often say rolling saves space, but it's never worked for me. I fold my items and try to get everything as flat as possible. I haven't tried these yet, but they look great for keeping everything neat and tidy!
My beauty routine on the road is fairly simple. I cleanse my face with this and moisturize with this serum (obsessed). For make-up, I try not to bring too much. My favorite concealer, eyeliner, blush and mascara do the trick.
(A big thanks to Lonny Magazine for featuring me. And many thanks to my talented friend Ana Kamin for these images. If you haven’t already checked out her site California Weekend, you must! It’s my go-to resource for all things California love.)
