Charleston is one of my favorite cities in the world; it's utterly charming, quaint and extremely photogenic. There's great food, the people are lovely and the cherry on top is that it's home to one of my favorite little hotels, Zero George Street.
Comprised of 4 homes from the 1800's, Zero George feels a lot like stepping back in time. The wide verandas are the perfect place to catch that illusive Southern breeze while sipping something cold and strong. The drawing room is modern, yet elegant; the perfect balance of old and new. The guest rooms are beyond comfortable with luxe bedding and thoughtful touches like fresh flowers. Each morning, guests are invited to enjoy homemade biscuits and preserves in the courtyard while reading the paper. Civilized, indeed. Fancy a bit of cardio? Mint green bicycles are available with compliments to explore the surrounding historic district and cobblestone streets.
Wine on the veranda is the perfect pre-dinner activity. Check out Charleston's incredible dining scene, or keep things nice and easy and head downstairs for dinner at
Zero Restaurant + Bar. Guests are also welcome to book cooking classes in the historic carriage house kitchen (which I plan to do during my next visit!). Whatever you do, make sure you leave plenty of time for lounging in your feather bed; a great night's rest is guaranteed.
It's easy to feel at home here, and that's hard to do. Zero George has Southern hospitality down to a science with a lovely and accommodating staff who go above and beyond for each guest. Spa appointments? Guided shopping tour? Or maybe a sunset sail on a private yacht? The concierge is more than happy to arrange it.
You'll find it hard to leave Zero George and easy to return.
